Superintendent reports on SRO oversight, radon testing and facilities work

Superintendent Ryan Pacatte used the leadership report on June 9 to update the board on operational and safety matters.
Pacatte said the former Avon chief of police was sentenced in the case against him and, as a result, the district has tightened oversight of school resource officer (SRO) hours on campus. He said the district is working on a one-year contract for two SROs and that discussions have included body cameras and footage-rights considerations. "District oversight of SRO hours on campus has been tightened up as a result of the investigation," the minutes record.
On facilities and environmental safety, Pacatte reported previous radon testing in the elementary school showed one room above the recommended threshold and two more close to it; after a second test, all rooms were below the recommended threshold and the district expects an official confirmation letter. He also reported progress on a canopy and high-school entry project with sod scheduled to be installed on June 18 and a plan to reuse donated benches and tables along the bus loop and library walkways.
Pacatte additionally noted district staff (Kristen Murphy and Susan Pike) are working with financial investment advisors to maximize earnings on public funds, and that three parents had contacted the district with concerns about an external agency providing Erin's Law instruction in the middle school; administrators are reviewing feedback to improve instruction.
