Residents raise concerns about replacement garbage can and recent water bill increases

During the public presentation period, resident Diana Baker told the council she was disappointed that a replacement garbage can appeared to be used, with resin on the wheel and visible nicks and bumps. City staff responded that the can was new but manufactured from recycled plastic and that the appearance was normal for that product.
Resident Kaden Conover asked why residential water bills nearly doubled effective Jan. 1 and whether that might trigger state utility-to-income thresholds. Council member Rodney Mund said the referenced state legislation had failed; Mayor Travis Mote clarified base rates for water and sewer had increased by about $12 and that higher sewer charges drive most of the larger bills. The council noted the increases had been approved the prior summer and implemented in January to give residents lead time before peak usage.
Council directed staff to continue communicating about rate structure and to provide documentation as requested by residents.
