Sanitarian Lisa Cabot reported the county’s first sanitarian advisory-group meeting in January, bringing together business owners from food, lodging and camp-and-lodging operations to discuss education and regulatory priorities. "We talked about some food code stuff," she said, and described plans for topic-specific meetings and public games to increase knowledge of common violations.
Cabot said the new lodging code introduced in January contains many new requirements; the department will delay full implementation until the next licensing year and provide cheat sheets to licensees so changes are not a surprise. She described transient food licensing complexities and said correct licensing depends on determining whether food accounts for more than 50% of sales for a given establishment.
The board moved, seconded and voted to approve the agency licensing application; members recorded a voice vote in favor and the motion carried. The sanitarian said inspection scheduling relies on a spreadsheet used to track upcoming inspections and that the department will continue emphasizing education-first approaches during inspections.
