O'Brien County Compensation Board recommends 4%–8% raises for elected officials; supervisors take no action
The county Compensation Board recommended Fiscal Year 2027 salary increases — 4% for supervisors/auditor/recorder/treasurer, 6% for the county attorney and 8% for the sheriff — but the Board of Supervisors deferred action. The raises would take effect July 1, 2026 if approved.

The O'Brien County Compensation Board presented recommended pay increases for Fiscal Year 2027 to the Board of Supervisors on Jan. 6, 2026. Rich Vander Werff, chair of the Compensation Board, and Denise Steffen, vice chair, laid out the proposal: County Supervisors, Auditor, Recorder and Treasurer — 4% each; County Attorney — 6%; County Sheriff — 8%.
