Board selects construction-manager-at-risk method for North Mesquite High School addition

The Mesquite ISD board approved a recommendation to use the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery method for the planned addition and renovations at North Mesquite High School.
Construction administration explained that, because of the project's scale and complexity, early engagement of a CMAR will allow sequencing work, more accurate cost estimates and coordination for major items such as HVAC and electrical upgrades, fire sprinkler and alarm replacement, removal of portables and construction of a 32,000-square-foot storm shelter. A construction-services representative told trustees they "want to get a CMAR on board early so we can start talking sequencing and get very accurate cost estimates." The project team indicated the storm shelter is planned to open in 2027.
Trustees moved (Mr. Rose) and seconded (Ms. Collier) the recommendation; the board approved the CMAR procurement method by voice vote recorded as passing unanimously. Administration said it will return with schematic designs next month and additional project details as the design process advances.
