Mesquite ISD board approves campus, district performance objectives aligned to state framework

The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees on Oct. 7 approved new campus and district performance objectives that align district-level support to campus-developed improvement plans.
Alicia Austin, who presented the item, told trustees the district flipped its prior top-down process so that the 52 campus improvement plans now drive what the district provides. "Last year, we began the work of aligning our campus improvement plans to the effective schools framework," Austin said, describing the framework the Texas Education Agency endorses. She said the district is moving from many overlapping strategies to a streamlined set of district supports and will review campus plans quarterly.
The motion to approve the objectives was made by Mr. Rose and seconded by Mr. Carbel; the board approved the measure by voice vote. Board members thanked staff for the work, and Austin credited the district's director of continuous improvement, Dr. Grubbs, for leading the alignment effort.
Board members said the change aims to make support more targeted. "So instead of the district telling campuses what their CIPs needed to include, we have used the CIPs to develop the support provided," Austin said. The board did not set additional conditions at the Oct. 7 meeting; trustees will monitor implementation through quarterly campus reviews and routine progress reports to the board.
