Superintendent outlines STAAR testing schedule and flags attendance trends

Superintendent Dr. Allen presented the district’s STAAR testing schedule and attendance data during the Feb. 19 meeting. The STAAR testing window includes April 14 (Grades 3–8 RLA and EOC English), April 15 (English II EOC), April 16 (5th/8th science and Biology EOC), April 17 (make‑ups), April 21 (Grades 3–8 math and Algebra EOC), April 22 (8th grade social studies and U.S. History EOC), and April 23–28 for make‑ups and final make‑up days. Dr. Allen encouraged families to avoid unnecessary absences around testing dates.
On attendance, Dr. Allen reported year‑to‑date attendance for 2025–26 at 91.2%, compared with the 2024–25 year‑to‑date figure of 91.4%. Campuses with the highest attendance included King Collegiate Academy (97%), Marshall Middle School (93.03%), and Caldwood Elementary (94.6%). Dr. Allen also noted that the BISD‑YMBL South Texas State Fair attendance incentive will not continue this year.
