Consultants from VLK/VO K presented proposed educational specifications for Hutto ISD’s Elementary School No. 9, explaining the campus is being programmed as a district-identified, specialized elementary offering early exposure to career and technical education.
The presenter said the concept includes four 1,200-square-foot flexible exploration labs on the first floor and two more on the second floor, a community room off the main entry, a media center surrounded by labs, and a learning stair that doubles as performance and informal learning space. He described the intent as "exploring big ideas, curiosity with real world applications" and stressed the concept is an adaptation of the district’s ed spec required by the Texas Education Agency before moving to schematic design.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about sightlines, the capacity (presenter said the target is 800, with current design at 896), and whether the cafeteria/gym can be combined with folding walls; the presenter said the configuration supports that option. The board was informed this presentation is for consideration and that a schematic design update will return later this summer.
