Fabens ISD honors students, staff and nutrition program during superintendent update

The Fabens ISD Board of Trustees opened its March 25 meeting with a superintendent update highlighting student and staff achievements across the district.
Sofia Maciel, the district media specialist, introduced a video and several in-person recognitions. "My name is Sofia Maciel. I'm the media specialist," she said when presenting the segment that celebrated a range of accomplishments, including the district mariachi group's UIL state championship and athletic and arts honors.
The board also recognized the Child Nutrition department and cafeteria manager Gloria Vasquez for receiving no findings in a Texas Department of Agriculture administrative review of the Child and Adult Care Food Program, an outcome the presenter called "behind-the-scenes excellence" that ensures students are cared for every day.
The update included announcements about Read Across America activities, Special Olympics participation, and K–12 online registration for the upcoming school year. The district said it would continue to offer voluntary student-led religious clubs and other noninstructional opportunities regardless of later policy decisions.
Looking ahead, presenters noted several students advancing to regional or national competitions and invited the community to support upcoming events.
