Steuben County approved the purchase of Varonis data‑tagging software after staff said the tool is needed to label protected health information and other sensitive records as part of an audit corrective action.
"The total cost came to $82,182.64 annually for 3 years," Rob (speaker 9) said as he presented the recommendation and explained the software is available on state contract. He said the system will run retroactively over existing data and automatically tag new files as they are added to county systems.
Rob told the board the first year will be charged to the IT capital project and that the county will budget for the recurring cost thereafter. Board members asked whether other bids were considered; Rob said the purchase uses the New York State contract vehicle and that vendors on the state contract were solicited. A motion to approve the purchase passed on a voice vote.
The approval directs staff to complete the state‑contract purchase and bring any contract paperwork back through procurement for execution. No formal vote tally was read into the record.
