Steuben County approves $82,183-per-year Varonis contract to tag sensitive data

Rob Wolverton, Director of Information Technology, told the committee the State Comptroller's corrective action plan requires tagging county information to indicate categories such as protected health information and personal information. Wolverton requested authorization to buy Varonis software for a three-year contract with an annual cost of $82,182.64.
Wolverton confirmed the software would be applied retroactively and to future data: "This will tag all old data as well as any new data," he said. County staff said the first-year cost will come from the IT Capital Project and future years will be added to the operating budget. The committee voted unanimously, 5-0, to authorize the Director of IT to purchase the Varonis software (motion by K. Michel Hanna; second by Brian C. Schu).
