Consultants said they completed an initial day of park visits and will prepare a facility inventory and benchmarking analysis to identify gaps in service, capital replacement needs and staffing implications.
"So yesterday, we spent all day... visiting all of your parks, kind of assessing what needs to be done," Christina Webb said, noting the team will analyze acres per thousand, trail miles per thousand and staff per full‑time equivalent to set service standards. Ballard King’s Scott Karen said market metrics (median household income, participation indices) will be used to estimate program demand and revenue potential.
Commissioners asked that the inventory include HOA parks and school district fields to identify unused field capacity; consultants said HOA parks and trail connections will be mapped and that school access will be examined but availability and scheduling are common constraints.
The inventory and benchmarking work will feed a gap analysis and recommendations for capital priorities and staffing adjustments to support maintenance and programming.
