Coquille Valley Elementary showcases new 5th‑grade science and expanded music program

Teacher (science) told the board that this year the district started a dedicated 5th‑grade science class built around the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), emphasizing student‑driven questions, experimentation, and iterative learning. "This is instead a very exploratory way to do science where the students pose the questions," the teacher said, and brought three 5th‑grade students to describe class projects — Abigail Westgard said her favorite part was experiments, including building balloon cars, and Malia and Isla described mystery science activities and lessons about matter.
