Clark County approves $1.14 million radio replacement for Sheriff’s Office

The Board of Clark County Commissioners on July 1 approved a $1,136,628.19 purchase from Motorola Solutions to replace aging radios in the Sheriff’s Office. The approved procurement covers up to 125 N70 portable radios and 20 APX6500 mobile radios, with payments scheduled in three annual installments beginning in 2027 and negotiation authority granted to county counsel.
Sheriff Chris Clark described the rationale for the purchase, saying the county’s last radios are approaching the end of their expected service life: "The last radios purchased are approaching 10 years old, which is the normal life expectancy of the radios." Commissioner Charles A. Patterson moved the resolution and Commissioner Greg R. Kaffenbarger seconded it. The roll call vote was unanimous in favor.
Motorola representative Mike Swope told the board that bulk purchasing produced better pricing: "Motorola was able to get better pricing because it was a bulk purchase." The board also included language authorizing further discussions with the vendor before finalizing terms and conditions.
