Parking division reports $6.3 million elevator replacement for 11 elevators

Erin, the division manager for parking, told members the city is undertaking a multi‑facility elevator replacement project covering 11 elevators with a project cost reported as about $6.3 million. "I think we've mentioned in the past, we've got a current project to replace elevators at 3 of our facilities. It's an over $6,000,000 project to, do a lot of the mechanical, the electronics, and then the caps themselves," Erin said.

Staff said two elevators are already in progress and others will be staged so each work window may require taking one elevator out of service for roughly a month or two. For some locations (including a freight elevator affected by water intrusion and mold) additional remediation (hazmat cleanup) was required before elevator work could begin. Committee members asked about user impacts and closure durations; staff said they try to leave one elevator operational while another is worked on to preserve access where possible.

Division staff categorized the elevator line as a standalone capital appropriation, distinct from smaller facility improvements, and said they will update the board as timelines firm up and units are completed.
