The Jim Wells County Commissioners Court approved a 30-day extension of the county's local state of disaster related to drought conditions. Judge Pedro Petitravigna Jr. said the declaration — originally declared on 07/06/2026 and ratified on 07/10/2026 — remains necessary "for any further assistance to the state, regional, or... federal level" because the conditions "are still happening around the area and, have not been totally addressed."
