Cheney planners hear update on Comprehensive Plan; Nexus work to continue

The Cheney Planning Commission on Feb. 9 received an update on the city’s Comprehensive Plan process as staff and consultants continue drafting the next plan iteration.
Building/Planning Manager Terry Mourning said he has been coordinating with Mayor Martin and consultant Nexus on the update and that “Nexus is still working on the plan and will have more to present soon.” He told commissioners that a county representative will attend next month’s meeting to discuss the plan’s Climate Element and that staff are working through the capital facilities plan component.
Mourning asked commissioners to finish a questionnaire provided by Nexus to help refine Comp Plan goals. Todd Ableman clarified that the capital facilities plan is a six‑year plan that is revisited every two years and is one component of the Comprehensive Plan. Commissioners were asked to return completed questionnaires or request help from staff.
The commission took no formal action on the Comp Plan at the meeting; staff indicated further presentations and a county speaker are expected at future meetings.
