Kemp Independent School District approves construction method, hears ag barn update

Kemp Independent School District trustees on Oct. 28 approved a resolution selecting the construction delivery method for a new animal barn, adopting a prevailing wage rate and delegating related authority for the project. Secretary Sharron Rankin moved to approve the resolution and Trustee Randal Robertson seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
During the Superintendent’s report, Dr. James Young told trustees that "All work with architects and civil engineers has been completed and designs will be sent to architects next week." He added that the engineered foundation report was extensive and "therefore, our foundation costs will likely be more than originally planned," and that the district will be required to have fire lanes on each side of the building. District staff reported estimated delivery of materials and erection could take up to 16 weeks and said the goal is to place the order before Thanksgiving break. The resolution authorized the procurement and delegated the necessary implementation steps to district leadership.
