Dr. Kristin Johnson told the board the Advanced Learners Task Force recommends a districtwide continuum modeled on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) with three levels of service: "Tier 1 – Core Instructions with differentiation," "Tier 2+ - Targeted, Supplemental Instruction," and "Tier 3 – Intensive Instruction." The presentation emphasized expanding differentiation at Tier 1, offering more acceleration options and extracurricular enrichment, and creating a consistent identification and placement system across buildings.
The Task Force proposed considering Total School Cluster Grouping in elementary and intermediate schools, adapting enrichment programming, and expanding subject-area and whole-grade academic acceleration. Dr. Johnson also outlined next steps for professional development for staff and improved district-, school-, and classroom-level communication. The board listed Advanced Learner recommendations on the Jan. 15, 2025 agenda for further consideration.
