Board discusses policy templates (Lexipol) and customization costs
Summary
Board members asked whether the department could provide standard operating procedure templates (e.g., Lexipol) for board review; staff said SOP products are templates requiring customization and recurring costs rather than one-time turnkey purchases.

A board member asked whether the department could share SOP templates (Lexipol or similar) so the board could review a standard policy package.
Staff warned that products like Lexipol are templates requiring months of local customization and ongoing subscription or maintenance costs, not a one-time, ready-to-use policy. “You’re talking if it’s anything like ours, months of work because all you get is a template,” a staff member said. Board members asked staff to obtain a sample template and cost estimate and to report back.
The board did not take formal action on SOP procurement but asked staff to look into whether a template similar to a cited local chief’s set could serve as a practical starting point.
