Board hears positive update on trainee Officer Beal’s progress

Department trainers told the board Officer Beal is completing phase 1 of the Power Ready FTO program and showing strong aptitude; staff expect phased progression through month-end with further night-shift training to follow.
Police leadership reported that trainee Officer Beal is progressing through the new Power Ready field-training program and is meeting trainers’ expectations.
“With that being said, she is extremely intelligent,” Chief Bratton said of Officer Beal’s performance during scenario-based training. Department staff described phased training (three phases), said Beal is near transition to phase 2 by the end of the month and will do remaining phase work on night shift. The trainers praised her situational awareness during scenario exercises and community-based trainings at local buildings.
Board members and staff said the department prefers to err on the side of additional training to ensure readiness; no personnel action was taken during the update.
