Commission authorizes $3.1M in bridge work, citing weight limits and replacement needs

Lindsay Powrousseau told the commission the bridges package covers three projects totaling about $3,100,000, with an estimated $2,500,000 to be funded with bonds and the balance from sales tax funds. Bond counsel Garth Herman said state law imposes different requirements for bridges and that, unlike roads, a bridge resolution does not carry the same publication requirement.
Lynn Packer, Public Works director, said the Federal Highway Administration is changing sufficiency-rating methodology and described the three bridges as classified in poorer condition, with two already weight limited; commissioners noted that failing to act could require further weight restrictions or closures. The resolution passed by roll call.
