Resident urges Pine County to require light-mitigation for cannabis operations

At the public forum, Denise Wise of Royalton Township urged the Pine County Board to act on what she described as inconsistent light-mitigation related to cannabis operations.
"We're talking about cannabis, our community, myself, especially, because this affects me and my home, to have some light mitigation per permit application and the ordinance," Wise said, adding that lights from operations can be seen from commercial areas and "we there is lights that are being seen 6 miles away." She said residents had filed a complaint and asked the board to ensure consistent notice and enforcement through planning and zoning.
Wise cited state language about light pollution and called repeated cancellations of Planning & Zoning meetings a barrier to resolving the concern: "You look at our planning and zoning board meetings, and out of 11 months, 6 times it's been canceled." She asked whether the county would need legal action or news attention to prompt consistent treatment.
The board acknowledged the complaint and directed staff to follow up on the filing and routing to planning and zoning; no formal action was taken during the meeting.
