Public services reports stream‑bank work, roundabout construction and garbage RFP timeline

Public Services presented a cluster of ongoing infrastructure and maintenance items. The department reported that Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the stream‑bank project are complete and noted improvements to water quality and bank erosion control along the trail from South Street to Innovation Drive. Staff also described construction on the Williamsburg–Peterson roundabout (work began July 29), which will close the trail segment adjacent to the project for roughly 2–2.5 months; an overland trail route has been negotiated with Hooper to maintain pedestrian access.

Public services noted a new garbage RFP has been issued with responses due at the end of the month and a question period scheduled for Aug. 21; one option in the RFP asks respondents to price weekly recycling pickup. Staff also highlighted local crew actions — a water crew member stopped to block a roadway and fight a FedEx vehicle fire until the fire department arrived — as examples of public‑service responsiveness. No formal board action was required on these informational items.
