The City Commission unanimously approved a resolution authorizing submission of the Broward County Community Development Block Grant application for an estimated $29,035 to fund senior programs for Lighthouse Point residents 62 and older.
Library Director Christy Keyes told the commission, "The city has been allocated an estimated $29,035 by the community development block grant allocation formula. These funds will be used for senior programs for Lighthouse Point residents ages 62 and over." Keyes described programming since Oct. 1: 124 Lighthouse Point residents age 62+ have visited the library to sign up for CDBG programs, and staff have delivered 87 class sessions with a total of 1,152 participants across events including technology help, book clubs, arts and classes on cybersecurity.
After a public hearing with no members of the public speaking, a commissioner moved and the commission passed the resolution authorizing the application and submission to Broward County. Staff said this was the third public hearing held to meet grant requirements and that materials were posted and available online.
