Pitman officials praise coordinated response to rail-line brush fires

Council members reported on a lengthy brush fire that ran along the railroad corridor through Pitman in mid-April. Councilman Uyehara relayed thanks from the police chief and deputy chief to Pitman Police officers, Pitman Fire Department, County OEM, Pitman OEM, County Communications, NJ Forest Fire Service and numerous outside fire companies for their assistance in containing the fires.
Mayor Razze said some sheds, fences and part of the old Kandle Lumber Yard building sustained damage but there were no injuries or loss of life. He specifically thanked mutual-aid departments and the Forest Fire Service and noted that, because of the location, an aerial water drop was required. "We really appreciate all their efforts!" the mayor said.
