Board weighs engineering study for traffic calming at Lombardi/Orinoco intersection

Trustees described motorists "shooting around" a small island at the Lombardi and Orinoco intersection and said any permanent redesign would require a traffic engineer. The chair said the goal is to alter driver behavior by changing geometry so motorists must slow and re-route consciously rather than speed through the area.

Residents and trustees noted the south entrance serves Brightwaters and nearby neighborhoods and warned that partial changes can shift traffic to adjoining blocks. One trustee said National Grid vehicles have been seen on Lombardi and that village attorneys have spoken with the company; trustees agreed to collect photographic evidence from residents and to get price estimates from outside engineers before making permanent changes.
