Elementary teachers, administrators flag pacing issues with Bluebonnet math curriculum

Elementary Principal Katie Loughner reported implementation challenges with the Bluebonnet math curriculum and summarized interim-assessment results. She said all third- through fifth-grade students completed short interim assessments (20 questions each), which staff described as "shorter than expected," and that teachers are concerned the fast-paced, spiraled curriculum moves on before students achieve mastery.
Superintendent Chris Yeschke and principals discussed that the STAAR redesign coming in 2027–28 will change assessment formats and that interim assessments will remain in place to prepare students and generate data for regrouping and interventions. Loughner said region support and product advisors are involved and that the district will monitor results; teachers expressed concern about readiness when the curriculum advances topics rapidly.
