Committee 6 took up a resolution to align Shelby County Board of Education election cycles and term limits with the Board of County Commissioners pursuant to TCA §49‑2‑201. State Representative Tory Harris (House District 91), who sponsored the state legislation, told the committee the bill as passed removed a provision that would have allowed sitting school‑board members to simply finish their current terms; he said the enacted law supersedes prior local rules and was written to start a new aligned cycle.
