Agency IT staff described a comprehensive device management lifecycle that begins with provisioning and imaging, includes peripheral setup and validation, and continues through patching, repair and retirement. Ian Sloane said the workflow ensures devices are configured with security controls and role-appropriate access so employees can be productive from day one.
Sloane emphasized the security benefits of standardized images and consistent patching and said the team aims to replace all end-of-life devices annually to reduce operational risk and cyber exposure. He noted the inventory includes physical and virtual devices and mobile endpoints, and stressed close coordination between device management and cybersecurity for policy alignment and patch schedules.
Board members and managers welcomed the approach and credited the team for reducing downtime and improving device reliability while acknowledging staffing constraints that require cross-team support for infrastructure responsibilities.
