The Centerville City Council voted to add new language to the city water/sewer application establishing a $500 tamper fee for customers who cut off or remove locks the city has placed on meters. The ordinance-language change also allows the city to charge an additional $25 for each visit by a city employee to verify that the lock has not been removed again until the account is returned to good standing.
Charlie Shafer made the first motion and Lawrence Johnson seconded; the motion passed unanimously among members present (4 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent). The changes will be applied administratively through the water/sewer application process; the council did not provide a specific effective date at the July 8 meeting.
