Brightwaters board sets public hearing on stop-sign changes after traffic study

The Village of Brightwaters on Monday scheduled a public hearing for Local Law 5-2025 to add stop-sign designations on Orinoco Drive after trustees reviewed a preliminary traffic study.
Chair said the village recently received the preliminary study and proposed two stop signs at the Orinoco Drive–Peters Boulevard intersection. "Id like to make a call for a public hearing on local law 5Dash2025 to amend 119-4 stop sign designation," the Chair said; trustees seconded the motion and set the hearing for next month.
Trustees and residents discussed the study's vehicle counts; the Chair noted the study indicates roughly 5,000 vehicles pass North Windsor daily, a figure trustees said will guide next steps. Residents urged a combination of signage, speed humps and enforcement; one resident said the village should "slow people down" and suggested piloting measures on the north side first.
The board said it will publish the study results for residents, propose targeted measures (two stop signs next month) and consider budget implications before implementing speed tables or a broader program. The public hearing will give neighbors an opportunity to comment on the proposed amendments before the board votes.
