Goliad ISD board approves progress update on secondary math, PLC implementation

The Goliad ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously March 3 to approve the Lone Star Governance (LSG) Goal Progress Measures for Goal 4, Secondary Math, and Superintendent Constraint 4, focusing on professional learning community (PLC) implementation.
Region 3 LSG coach Lisa Moya told trustees the boards time tracker showed 36.67% of board time tracked at the Feb. 10, 2025 meeting was spent on student outcomes. GMS Principal and Algebra I teacher Abby Sanchez presented cohort-level progress for GMS and GHS Algebra I students since the start of the school year. Superintendent Holly Lyon said all three campuses are participating in PLCs and described a training model in which teachers attend training sessions and return to lead instruction on campus.
Trustee Jason Howard moved to approve the update; Trustee Justin Youngblood seconded the motion. The motion carried 7-0.
The board record shows the work is intended to monitor and support instruction in secondary math and to formalize PLC practices districtwide. Trustees stressed continued measurement of student progress and teacher training as next steps.
