The selectboard voted to delegate authority to the highway foreman to approve road/access permits, removing the selectboard signatures from the current form. The Chair said the foreman needs to inspect and approve site conditions and proposed delegating that approval to him; the motion carried by voice vote. "So I'll make a motion that we delegate the authority to approve all access permits to the room foreman and remove our signatures and approval from the current form we have," the Chair said when proposing the change.
Members said the highway foreman is best placed to assess clearance, sight lines and safety, and that the board can request review of any permit the foreman flags as problematic. After the vote the Chair confirmed the foreman may handle routine permits while bringing complex or disputed cases back to the board.
