Spring Valley adopts tree ordinance and creates Tree Board to access grants
Council approved an ordinance governing tree planting and protection on city property and established a Tree Board; members said passing the ordinance is necessary to apply for grants for removal and replacement work and aim to appoint an arborist within five years.

Council members adopted an ordinance amending the municipal code to establish standards for tree planting, preservation and protection on city property and in rights-of-way. Alderman Deb Baltikauski said passing the ordinance is necessary to apply for removal-and-replacement grants and that the city will work with Superintendent Norton to avoid conflicts with sewer infrastructure.
