Prison board approves new mobile X-ray contract after vendor exit

The board approved a replacement diagnostic mobile X-ray contract after the previous provider indicated it would stop serving the facility.
Warden Scott Atwell said the prior vendor stopped taking the jail as a client because usage was low; he presented a new Erie-based vendor with higher rates but quicker on-site service. "They were gonna drop us as a customer... We were only using them on average 12 to 15 times a year," Atwell said, and stressed that the new contract avoids frequent inmate transports for imaging. The contract was presented as a one-year agreement with automatic renewal unless canceled.
Board members approved the contract by voice vote. The warden said the arrangement reduces staff transport time, inmate movement offsite and related security burdens. The board asked that contract terms be reviewed and the procurement paperwork be finalized.
