Parents and student warn board abrupt Eastern View coaching changes risk recruits and safety

“These abrupt changes have 100% placed the integrity of the program at risk,” Austin said, describing lost individualized recruitment support and coaches she characterized as “ill equipped” for head‑coach responsibilities. Austin also noted Eastern View lacks a pole‑vault program, which she said places the team at a competitive disadvantage.
Abigail Seward Ward, a senior at Eastern View and a member of Mountain Vista Governor’s School, urged the board to consider students’ voices and cautioned against placing unprepared coaches into programs during a key collegiate‑recruiting year. “Track and field is not a program where you simply can just place anyone as coach,” Seward Ward said, stressing the program’s importance for students’ scholarship opportunities and personal wellbeing.
Board members did not take action during public comment; the chair reminded speakers that these concerns would be referred to appropriate administrators for follow‑up. The board’s public‑comment rules say such matters are referred to administrators and no action is taken at the meeting.
