County staff opened the Board of County Commissioners budget presentation by saying the BOCC/county administration request includes a net increase of $265,646.21, with most of the rise on the operating side and some personnel increases.
"So overall, we are looking at an increase in this budget of $265,646.21," the staff presenter said. The presenter said the administration budget covers countywide items such as insurance and benefits that affect multiple departments.
The staff presenter walked the board through key line items, noting that unemployment remained budgeted at $5,000 and that professional services include a $10,000 line for the value adjustment board attorney. The FEMA consultant contract (Thomas Howell Ferguson) was reduced from $100,000 to $40,000 after staff reviewed actual invoice history.
Commissioners probed specific lines during Q&A. One commissioner asked about an apparent $116,000 jump in the audit line in 2024; staff said the $98,000 audit budget represents the expected annual cost and that the higher 2024 figure reflected extra services provided that year.
