Board reviews Oregon English learner report and finalizes committee assignments and PD dates

Julie Smith, Director of Special Programs, reviewed the 2023–24 Oregon English Learner report as required by the Oregon Department of Education; she said the state provides comparative data and asked districts to compare local outcomes to state averages on demographics, program participation, language development, assessments, graduation, attendance and revenues/expenditures. Smith answered questions from the board about the data.
Chair Beth Harrison presented the 2025–26 committee assignments and school adoptee lists and encouraged board members to attend the OSBA Annual Convention on Nov. 7–8, 2025. Superintendent Michelle Jensen said cabinet staff are preparing supports for special educators, principals and new teachers ahead of the Aug. 22 kickoff breakfast.
