Building technology inventory: district standardizes classroom hardware and readies refresh plan

Joe Mericle, who returned to the district staff after a previous tenure, briefed the board on building-level technology inventory and classroom hardware needs.
Mericle listed the district counts for classroom hardware and said classrooms are standardized so teachers can move between rooms without hardware differences. He recited totals for classroom setups and said interactive displays and document cameras are widely used. "We have, in our elementary classrooms, basically we have, a 146, setups, desktop setups, a 168 in secondary," he said, describing parity across rooms. He added teachers overwhelmingly selected desktops over laptops in a district survey because of reliability concerns.
Mericle said the district conducts a summer maintenance cycle in which staff touch every device, clean and test hardware and produce a prioritized list of replacements; projectors and smart displays in elementary classrooms—some dated to 2019—are candidates for replacement. Staff also said a teacher-training program is planned: in a district survey, 97% of responding teachers said they would accept training on new devices and software.
