Monroe plan commission outlines May–December timeline for comprehensive-plan update

The Monroe City Plan Commission received an outline of a comprehensive-plan update that city staff intends to complete this year and move to the commission and council for approval in December. Administrator Renee told commissioners that Southwest Regional Planning Commission will support a kickoff meeting and public engagement even though regional staff could not attend this session.
"We are hoping to put out the survey in mid May following kind of the first steering committee meeting kickoff," Administrator Renee said, describing a process that also includes open houses, outreach at summer events and a public hearing before any official acceptance. Staff proposed wrapping public input in August, reviewing results with the steering committee in September, preparing a draft plan for presentation in November and forwarding the final approval to the commission and council in December.
Renee said the update would revisit topics from the 2015 plan — including housing, transportation, economic development, parks and recreation, culture/community, utilities and energy — and aim to translate recommendations into implementable actions. The administrator emphasized that the plan should produce champions for implementation and practical priorities that reflect recent on-the-ground developments in Monroe.
