Todd County commissioners voted April 15 to ask the Minnesota Department of Transportation to conduct a speed-limit study on County Road 11 near Adams Drive following a cluster of recent crashes and complaints from residents.
Public Works staff explained the difference between the advisory yellow placard (40 mph recommendation) and an enforceable white regulatory speed sign; the board’s resolution asks MnDOT to investigate and set a reasonable speed limit the sheriff can enforce. “They’re driving way over the speed limit in this area,” Commissioner Randy Newman said during the discussion. The motion to request the study was moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
The recommendation notes prior MnDOT correspondence in 2020 that left the speed unchanged after an engineering review; commissioners said crashes in the Fairy Lake area and on intersections with County Roads 2 and 11 prompted renewed requests for a study. With the resolution approved, county staff will forward the request to MnDOT for investigation.
