Board issues multiple variances for shoreland, centerline and side-yard setbacks

During two days of hearings the Oconto County Board of Adjustment considered a string of property-specific variance requests tied to lot shape, shoreline constraints and septic or access limitations.

Key outcomes included: Kathe Rich received both a centerline and a shoreland (OHWM) variance with conditions to verify the structure contains no living area and to restore a 35-foot buffer zone; Warren Prochnow received a 52-foot variance to place a retaining wall 23 feet from the OHWM because of severe erosion; Bill LaLuzerne received a 40-foot variance from the shoreland setback and a 22-foot centerline variance but the board denied a requested 1-foot side-yard variance as self-created; H & S Waubee North Partners LLC was granted an 8-foot centerline variance for a new home; Chad and Julie McDermid received 42-foot (OHWM) and 19-foot (centerline) variances for a garage; and James and Christine Hendrickson were granted a 1-foot side-yard variance and a 38-foot centerline variance subject to re-establishing a shoreline buffer. The orders record findings of unique physical limitations (lot size, wetlands, slopes) and include typical permit and appeal language.
