The Oxford Ethics Council began a page-by-page review of a revised Chapter 13 ethics ordinance on June 11, with members praising the substance of the update while pressing for consistent formatting and numbering changes.
"Really, the substance of this ethics code is, looks fine to me and is quite impressive," said Eva, who opened the review and led the discussion. Council members agreed most suggested edits are typographical or structural — changing Roman numerals to Arabic numerals in some lists, converting nested paragraphs to lettered subpoints and adjusting indentation to reflect hierarchy.
The review covered the ordinance from its opening provisions through multiple subsections. Members repeatedly noted instances where letters and numerals were inconsistent across pages and proposed a standard nesting scheme: letters for first-level subpoints, Arabic numerals for second-level lists and Roman numerals only where historically necessary.
Council members asked staff to produce a revised draft that implements the agreed conventions and to circulate a second version for review. That revised draft will be paired with finalized disclosure forms before the item goes to the commissioners for possible appointment and adoption.
