Council hears first reading on multiple speed-limit changes across Cedar Park

The Cedar Park City Council heard a staff presentation Oct. 3 on proposed speed-limit changes for several corridors and opened a public hearing that drew no public testimony.
Tom Gdala, senior transportation project manager, said speed limits are set under the Texas Transportation Code and "are based on engineering evaluations primarily based on spot speed checks during free flow conditions." He listed proposed changes that include establishing Anderson Mill Road (FM 620 to Whitestone Boulevard) at 45 mph; amending Whitestone Boulevard sections to 45 and 55 mph; setting portions of US 183 (Bell Boulevard) to 45 and 50 mph; and establishing RM 734/Parmer Lane & Ronald Reagan Boulevard through the city limits at 55 mph.
Mayor Penniman-Morin opened and then closed the public hearing after no one signed up to speak. The item proceeded as a first reading; Council will consider final ordinance language and adoption at a subsequent meeting.
