The City of Key West Sustainability Advisory Board heard an update that the city’s climate adaptation plan is nearly complete and will be the subject of a grant‑required public workshop in early September. The presenter said the document includes a ranked set of projects (top 30 in one‑page profiles and roughly 120 projects total) and that the workshop will focus on policy steps the board and community could take.
"But we're considering it like 95% done," the Presenter said, describing the draft's organization and the stakeholder review process. The presenter asked members for scheduling availability and said the workshop will dig into policy items — for example whether the city should adopt local building standards that exceed state code or examine impervious‑surface rate adjustments so property owners pay according to how much stormwater their parcels generate.
The board was asked to review chapter‑level tasks and the short project summaries prior to the workshop. Staff noted the plan includes projects beyond strictly city‑run work (for example, utilities and private health providers) so the plan is intended to support regional coordination and grant seeking. The presenter also flagged the Keys Ready Health Coalition as a stakeholder recently added to the plan's outreach list.
Next steps: staff will circulate a scheduling link for a half‑day workshop slot in early September and invite broader public participation; members were asked to flag any glaring omissions in their areas of expertise prior to the workshop.
