Consultant: data support dedicated bike lanes on Parker Avenue; design targets 6‑ft lanes and traffic calming
Aug 11, 2026
Dynamic Traffic presented traffic counts (5,000–7,500 vehicles/day), 85th‑percentile speeds of 28–34 mph, pedestrian/bicycle crash history and proposed cross‑sections (10–11 ft travel lanes; 6 ft bike lanes where feasible), with targeted green markings and intersection extensions to improve visibility and safety.
The full story
Pat Downey of Dynamic Traffic described the corridor data and how it shaped the proposed design. "Average daily traffic volumes of between 5 to 7,500 vehicles per day" and 85th‑percentile speeds of roughly 28–34 mph informed the recommendation to move away from shared‑lane markings toward dedicated bike lanes, he said. Downey noted about 7% of crashes in the analyzed five‑year period involved a pedestrian or bicyclist, concentrated near major intersections.
