Cornwall board extends written comment period after heated comprehensive‑plan hearing

Supervisor opened a continued public hearing on the town's draft comprehensive plan and turned the floor over to the plan attorney and planner before public testimony began. After more than two hours of comments from residents, the supervisor moved to close the hearing to oral remarks and extend the deadline for written comments to Friday, August 14; a board member seconded and the motion passed on a voice vote.
The hearing included dozens of public speakers who raised concerns about housing density, school capacity and the potential for large developments on sites such as the Amado (Cornwall Commons) and the New York Military Academy site. The board said accepting additional written comments will give planning staff and the town attorneys time to review input and determine next steps. "Can I get a motion to extend close the public hearing and extend written comments to be accepted until Friday, August 14?" the supervisor said during the motion to set the new deadline.
