Chair explained why keeping a higher threshold can allow the city more discretion to favor experienced local contractors rather than being forced by closed competitive bidding to accept the lowest-dollar bid. "If we keep it at the 100,000, that way it doesn't have to be a closed bid, and we can go with someone who we can search and see if they, you know, what their history is," the Chair said.
