Haskell County accepts $52,500 hazard mitigation planning grant to update overdue plan

An emergency-management official told the Haskell County Board of Commissioners that the county has been awarded a $52,500 Hazard Mitigation Planning Grant (HMPG) from the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management. The presenter said the county’s current hazard-mitigation plan dates to about 2014–15 and that the grant will pay for technical work — including GIS support — to bring the plan up to date.
The presenter said the grant award provides an opportunity to convene a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to gather input from private industry, the hospital and other local service providers. “We were awarded the hazard mitigation planning grant,” the emergency-management official said, adding the plan must be completed by April 30, 2029. County staff said a local agreement and contract documents would be routed to the board for signature if they choose to accept the grant and proceed.
